Q

How do you know what place you're in in the waiting line when you place a hold? Some people say their library website lets them do this.

For example, you might say you're in 20th place when you place a hold on a book or DVD.

Answer

You aren't assigned a number in the hold queue. So, you will not be able to know what place you are in the waiting line. It is difficult to determine because the hold queue shows all the holds in our library consortium and the number could change regularly. Niles patrons do get first priority on Niles items, so when a Niles item becomes available, the next Niles patron will bump ahead of any in the list not from Niles. You can always call the library to confirm that you are on a hold queue, but we will not be able to give you a specific number.
